Doing it for Drew
After losing Drew, her brother from a heart attack, Cat decided to do something amazing for HEART UK. She joined forces with Vikki, Drew’s then girlfriend and some other family members and friends and wholeheartedly got involved with The 100 mile Great Cholesterol Challenge, part of National Cholesterol Month.
Drew was an amazing brother, son and boyfriend – always caring and compassionate and was much loved. On August 24 2015, Drew had a fatal heart attack – he was just 23. The hole that he has left in the family’s lives cannot be measured with words. ‘HEART UK supported our family at one of the hardest times of our lives and I felt the time was right to do something positive and good in memory of Drew’ says Cat. ‘The 100 mile Great Cholesterol Challenge really caught my eye and I knew this was something I really wanted to do.’
Cat registered on HEART UK’s special 100 mile Great Cholesterol Challenge microsite and created a team asking her family and friends to join in. Cat recruited 3 team members and together they covered 534 miles during October raising an incredible £837.
‘We all really enjoyed the challenge’ states Cat. ‘We planned team walks at the weekend and even did a 12 mile walk one Saturday followed by the hot tub and a Chinese! It was great. The challenge gave us the chance to share some special memories about Drew along the way which was lovely. We all ached the next morning but felt a lot fitter, but raising money for HEART UK in memory of Drew was what really drove us all on and it was more than worth it.’
