About the Ultimate Cholesterol Lowering Plan© (UCLP©)

Welcome to HEART UK’s Ultimate Cholesterol Lowering Plan© - also known as the UCLP© – your one stop guide to lowering cholesterol levels and keeping them low. The UCLP© can be followed as a diet only option or alongside cholesterol lowering medicines.

Making small changes to your diet will help towards lowering your cholesterol. However, the more elements of the UCLP© you take on board – the bigger the cholesterol lowering impact you will see. How much you lower your cholesterol is totally up to you and will depend upon:

  1. How motivated you are
  2. How closely you follow the UCLP©
  3. Getting your foundation diet right
  4. How many cholesterol busting foods you adopt and the quantities you eat     of them
  5. How high your cholesterol levels are to start with
  6. How unhealthy your eating habits are at the beginning

What can I expect?

Whether you just follow the basics or adopt every recommendation you should be able to lower your cholesterol level. The more changes you make the more you can lower your cholesterol.
The UCLP© is founded on good scientific evidence – which shows that getting your foundation diet right is fundamental, this involves;

  • Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables and whole grain starches
  • Replacing saturated fat with healthy unsaturated fats

These changes alone can reduce your cholesterol levels by 5-10%

  • Once you have a good foundation diet – each and any of the four UCLP© cholesterol busting foods you decide to adopt, will lower your cholesterol a little further AND
  • The more UCLP© cholesterol busting foods you add to your heart healthy foundation diet, the more your cholesterol will drop
