Case Study: Howard’s story

My name is Howard Craven. I am 61 years old. After having by-pass heart surgery in the summer of 2000, I was referred to Dr Matthews at Llandough Hospital, Cardiff. The referral was made as a result of my intolerance to Statins.

I have been receiving LDL Apheresis treatment for the past 8 years, attending hospital once per fortnight. The procedure takes approximately two hours, however that time does vary.

I am grateful for the ongoing advice, help and support from the Nursing Staff at Llandough and I feel very privileged that this treatment has been offered to me. Aside from the treatment day, which can be tiring, the LDL Apheresis treatment allows me to enjoy a normal life which again I feel grateful for.

My day-to-day life is relatively unaffected by my condition, allowing me the energy for gentle sports hobbies and spending time with my grand children.
