Virgin Money London Marathon
30 amazing runners pounded the streets on Marathon day (April 23) and we are so grateful to all of them who ran for team HEART UK and raised funds for us. We had a fantastic day and have lots of lovely new photographs to share with you. It's still too early to see how much we have raised, but we hope it will be at least £60,000, and we thank every runner for their supreme effort and support.
The public ballot entry system for the Marathon 2018 has now closed but you are welcome to register for a HEART UK place. For one of our charity places you will need to raise a minimum of £1,750. Email fundraising to find out more. Hear what some of our runners said of their Marathon experience:
"We had an amazing time! Thank you HEART UK for all your hospitality and a day we will never forget." Ian Dickens and Stefan Joyce
“I was struggling when I saw you all at the cheer point, so you gave me that lift I needed! I love London's atmosphere, there's no Marathon that can beat that! So happy to have run it again and to raise money for such a fabulous charity!” Lisa Wright
"It has been a real pleasure liaising with you up until the race day, and then to finally meet you and your team. The photos are great - thank you. It was lovely to unwind at Browns and reflect on the day. The massage was the icing on the cake. A truly memorable day. Thank you for letting me be part of your team." Paul Collier
"Just wanted to say a massive thank you for giving me and my dad the opportunity to run in the Marathon on Sunday. We really really enjoyed it!" Ugne Pleinyte
"A BIG THANK YOU for allowing me to run for HEART UK. It was an honour and a pleasure." Lynn Siggins
The money raised from the Marathon will help to:
• Run our Helpline where our specialist nurses and dieticians help people look after themselves and get the care and support they need
• Campaign and lobby the government to help make sure people get the best levels of care
• Educate and inform about the condition Familial hypercholesterolaemia (often shortened to FH) an inherited condition which leads to exceptionally high cholesterol levels
• Provide expert information and advice to help people stay healthy and be active
