Finding FH in GP practices Medway

80-90% of Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) cases remain undiagnosed. Two simple interventions improved diagnosis of genetic inherited high cholesterol in one CCG. Could your CCG establish a similar Familial Hypercholesterolemia programme?

Improving diagnosis of FH - The HEART UK FH Primary Care Audit Programme

FH (familial hypercholesterolaemia) is a preventable cause of heart disease but more than 230,000 people in the UK don’t know they have the condition. HEART UK are seeking to work with CCGs, GPs and other NHS bodies to improve diagnosis of FH, prevent premature heart disease and save lives.

In 2014 HEART UK published ‘Systematically Identifying Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH) in Primary Care’.  The report showed how NHS Medway CCG more than doubled the number of people diagnosed with FH in the CCG by implementing two simple interventions.
