Soya Cocktail sticks

Preparation and cooking time: 50 minutes


1 cup soya chunks
¼ cup natural yogurt
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 large onion, sliced into chunks
1 green pepper, cut into squares
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
½ teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
1 teaspoon garlic paste
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
2 tablespoon tomato sauce
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 handful cherry tomatoes

  • Boil soya chunks (available from Asian stores) in water till soft, keep them soaking in warm water for ½ hour, then drain and squeeze.
  • Add salt and pepper to the yoghurt and mix well.
  • Marinate the soya chunks in the yoghurt mixture and keep aside till serving time
  • Heat the oil in a non-stick pan. Reduce heat. Add carom seeds, cook for a minute.
  • Add garlic paste and stir for a few minutes till it changes colour. Remove from heat and add the red chilli powder.
  • Add the tomato and soya sauce.
  • Return to heat.  Add the soya chunks along with the mixture. Gently cook till almost dry.
  • Add the onion and pepper and sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Thread slice of onion, then soya chunk, followed by the pepper and cherry tomato on each cocktail stick.
  • Serve hot.
