Spicy Bean Cakes

Serves 6


800g kidney beans
200g butter beans
200g black eye beans
200g cooked red lentils
1 onion
1 chilli
100g wholemeal breadcrumbs
A handful of chopped parsley
3 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and Pepper


  • Place two thirds of the beans in a food processor and blend until they form a rough paste.
  • Fry the onion in 1 tsp of the oil until they have softened.
  • Place the blended bean mixture in a bowl and stir in the other third of the beans as well as the onion, lentils, parsley, chilli and breadcrumbs until well combined.
  • Shape the mixture into patties and flatten the top.
  • Heat the rest of the olive oil in a frying pan and fry the patties for 4 minutes on each side or until golden and cooked through.
