Round up - National Cholesterol Month 2017
Thanks to everyone who got involved with National Cholesterol Month last October. It was our 9th year of running the campaign and a huge thank you to everyone who raised funds and awareness for us; we could not do this without your terrific support!
Our main fundraising event, the 100 mile Great Cholesterol Challenge went really well - many supporters and companies got involved – including HEART UK!
John West Foods certainly went that extra mile during National Cholesterol Month! Their Sales Team did a coast to coast cycle ride over two days covering 152 miles and together with other general fundraising the company have raised over £4000! We have also teamed up with John West to launch a unique set of recipes – all heart healthy and delicious! Download free the #OneAWeek recipe guide for heart healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner suggestions like vibrant Mackerel Kedgeree and easy Tuna Melt!
HEART UK have also been out and about cholesterol testing with the support of Benecol and tested employees at Waitrose HQ in Bracknell and Morrisons in Bradford. As part of National Cholesterol Month, we also asked people to make a pledge to do something heart healthy during October. Staff challenged themselves with some great pledges like ‘give up pastry’, ‘walk up the stairs’, ‘go to the gym more’, ‘eat a Mediterranean diet’, ‘walk regularly and eat less chocolate’! Team Benecol also did a staff walk and raised over £1,300 for HEART UK during National Cholesterol Month.
Several of our running friends have laced up and raised funds competing in some Marathons and half Marathons during October. This is a great way to support us; have a look at some of our sporting events and challenges to see if there are any that tempt you!
Corporate partners Porta Communications held a cake competition and along with some other fundraising initiatives raised over £900.
Celebrity ambassador, Cyrus Todiwala supported the month by offering a special dish of ‘Tandoori grilled halibut on soft chilli squid and garlic risotto’ at his Café Spice Namaste. For each dish sold during October, Cyrus donated £2 to HEART UK.
And Dietetic Advisor, Linda Main has been busy all summer creating some delicious heart healthier snacks especially for National Cholesterol Month!
